George Clinton, seven times governor of New York (1777-95 and 1801-04) and twice vice-president of the United States (1805-12), was a leading political figure from the period of the Revolution to the War of 1812. This is Ceracchi's original bust of Clinton, modeled about the same time the sculptor executed the bust of John Jay which is now in the U.S. Supreme Court Bldg. in Washington. Both Clinton and Jay sat for Ceracchi in New York.
