This medal was sold to raise funds for the National Navy Club's activities for sailors when they came to port in New York. Franklin D. Roosevelt was president of the Club at the time and wrote, "The medal is done in bronze by Sally James Farnham, the sculptress who patriotically gave her services..." In total, sales from the medal brought the organization $1,867.84.
