Description: Pewter struck medal with obverse showing four male figures at center with thirteen stars above, with surrounding legend: "GEORGE WASHINGTON TAKING THE OATH AS FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE Ud STATES/APRIL 30, 1789"; inscription in exergue: "IN FEDERAL HALL/WALL ST. N.Y." Reverse depicts fort with group of people around pole with American flag; seascape with sailing ships in background; legend: "1783 - CENTENNIAL - 1883/CELEBRATION OF THE EVACUATION OF NEW YORK/JOHN VAN ARSDALE REMOVED THE BRITISH/FLAG AND NAILED THE EMBLEM OF/FREEDOM IN ITS PLACE." Hope punched at center top.
