The Sew Simple badge was introduced for Junior Scouts, girls age eight to eleven, in 2001. This badge was meant to reassert the importance of sewing skills and allow former Brownies who may have earned their Stitch it Together badges to continue exploring sewing and handcrafts. The image on the 2001 badge recalls the Needlewoman's badge of 1920, on which the original scissors were replaced with a needle and spools of thread.
