Mathilda Davis LodgeAmerican, 1876 – 1960

Mathilda was the daughter of Judge John Davis of the U.S. Court of Claims and Sarah Helen Frelinghuysen, daughter of Frederick Theodore Frelinghuysen, a U.S. senator and Secretary of State under Chester A. Arthur. Miss Davis married George Cabot Lodge (d. 1909), poet and secretary to his father, Senator Henry Cabot Lodge. The couple had two sons: Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., a senator (b. 1902) and John Davis Lodge (b. 1903), Governor of CT and U.S. Ambassador to Spain. They also had one daughter, Helen, who became the Baroness de Streel of Brussels.
