Commodore Thomas Tingey (1750-1829) served in the American navy during the Revolution as commander of the 24-gun "Ganges" and guarded the Mona Passage in the West Indies, 1798-99. He was commandant of the Washington Navy Yard from 1804 until his death in 1829.
