Saucer is typical of Japanese Kutani export ware manufactured during the early twentieth century.
DescriptionWhite saucer painted along face in cinnabar red with gold; exterior is decorated with overlapping and variously shaped medallions, including fan shaped, that depict figure scenes, flowers, sparrows, and other landscape features. Underside painted with gold foliage.
MarkingsUnderside of saucer is marked in Japanese characters, translated as "Made by Iwa Workshop, Kutani, Japan."
