This medal commemorates the victory of the U.S. Asiatic Squadron under the command of commodore George Dewey in the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish-American War of 1898.
DescriptionBronze struck medal with obverse showing uniformed three-quarter portrait of George Dewey facing right with legend: "ADMIRAL. U.S.N. GEO. DEWEY." Reverse shows winged allegorical figure of Victory flanked by winged putti holding torch and scepter, with star above; legend: "VICTORY.MANILA MAY 1ST 1898."
