This medal is one of many won by track athlete Dolores Dwyer (b. 1932) of New York City. Ms. Dwyer began her running career in 1946 when she entered a children's track meet in Central Park sponsored by the Parks Department. She trained with the German-American Athletic Club in Brooklyn from 1947 to 1953 and competed in many national championships, setting several records. The event commemorated by this medal took place at Madison Square Garden.
