This medal was one of approx. two hundred made by Harry Auletti, blacksmith at the Fresh Kills Landfill. Auletti's co-workers called the blacksmith shop the "Alamo" for reasons unknown. The medals were made for visiting familes of those who died on 9/11; he also gave them to recovery workers at Fresh Kills. This medallion was given to Mark Schaming, Director of Exhibitions at the New York State Museum, in thanks for his efforts to document work done at the landfill after 9/11.
