This pair of sugar tongs was probably part of the wedding silver given to Rebecca Starbuck (1761-1817) who married Isaac Leggett in 1787.
DescriptionSilver sugar tong; bow-form with coffin-end arms with elliptical bowl grips; arch engraved, "PES" in script; maker's marks stamped on the underside of the arms.
Markingsengraved: on the arch, "PES" in script stamped: on the underside of the arms: illegible strike in a rectangle, "I . V" in a rectangle with rounded edges, "P" in roman letters
