DescriptionSilver tray; flat, circular dish with applied, cast convex sides and applied, cast grape and grape vine band around the rim; two cast, squared, foliate scroll handles appled to the ends of the tray; three cast shell and scroll feet applied to the base; ring of flowers and ferns engraved on the dish; bright-cut "G" in the center of the dish; makers' marks on the base.MarkingsMaker's mark: stamped on base: "GALE, WOOD & HUGHES" in roman letters in a rectangle, twice in relief on reverse of underside of rim. Also located below maker's mark are two indistinguishable pseudo hallmarks stamped in relief in oval surrounds.
Inscription: engraved and chased at obverse with centered script: "G" surrounded my cartouche of c-scrolls, foliage, and shells, framed by flower tendrils, strawberry tendrils, leaves, and strap work. Entire engraved surface is outlined with chased engrailed border.
