This commemorative medal was given to New-York Historical Society President Betsy Gotbaum at a dinner celebrating the 200th anniversary of the White House attended by President Clinton and former Presidents Bush, Carter, and Ford.
DescriptionCommemorative gilt bronze struck medal issued for the 200th Anniversary of the White House; obverse with image of White House surrounded by laurel and oak wreath tied with bow at lower center; dates inscribed upon scrolled banner at upper center: "1800 - 2000"; inscribed in ex.: "THE/WHITE/HOUSE". Reverse bears bust-length portraits of John and Abigail Adams within oval medallions decorated with floral swags; inscription above: "FIRST INHABITANTS OF/THE/PRESIDENT'S/HOUSE"; inscribed beneath portaits: "1800/JOHN and ABIGAIL/ADAMS". Inset into rectangular fitted dark blue velvet box with gilt metal seal of the United States applied to lower right corner of box cover; inside cover is lined with white polyester satin with seal of the United States embossed in gold at center.
