Riker, a descendant of Abraham Rycken of Amsterdam who came to New Netherland in 1638, was born in New York, the son of James and Elizabeth Riker. He was an historian, genealogist, and librarian, and a member of The New-York Historical Society. This portrait was painted from a photograph some time after his death.
