This miniature fire hydrant was made by the donor's father, Louis Wintner (1873-1969), a New York City engineer. Mr. Wintner grew up in Brooklyn, studied at the Pratt Institute and began working for General Incandescent Arc Light Company (now General Electric) around 1893. He helped design the first electric traffic light in New York. This miniature represents the intersection of Mr. Wintner's career as an engineer and his favorite hobby, woodworking.
