This mess kit belonged to William E. F. Smith, and was used during the Brooklyn trolley strike in 1895.
DescriptionOval tin mess kit with hinged handle and removable lid; obverse of lid is painted with an image of a member of the New York National Guard holding a sword, wearing forage cap and red-lined cape; reverse of lid inscribed as souvenir of the 1895 Brooklyn trolly strike; inside of dish inscribed "WEFS", reverse of dish inscribed with insignia of New York National Guard 7th Regiment.
