This serving spoon was given to the donor's mother, Marie Antoinette Baker Davis, on the occasion of her marriage to Fellows Davis, October 17, 1871.
Egyptian motifs became popular after the French and Egyptian governments joined in the formal opening of th Suez Canal in 1869. The Gorham company introduced the "Isis" pattern in the same year.
