This is one of ten studies of officers and soldiers of the Hesse-Cassel Infantry-Regiment Du Corps (Leib Regiment), which served in America with the British Army during the American Revolution. The regiment arrived at Sandy Hook on August 15, 1776, with the first division of 8,000 German trooops, augmenting British forces for the New York campaign, and served throughout the war until 1783.
