DescriptionPair of naval officer's epaulets; rigid, gold lace-covered strap with gilded metal button embossed with an eagle perched on an anchor (missing on "a"), and an embroidered anchor between a pair of stars inside gold embroidered roll crescent; two layers of gold bullion fringe, the outermost measuring 3 1/4 inches in length and 5/8 inch in diameter; leather and black velvet lining with eye hooks and cloth ties for fastening.
Markingsmaker's label: affixed on inside of strap: "HORSTMANN BROS. & ALLIEN / MILITARY / GOODS / NEW YORK"
