According to the accession records, this shako was worn by the donor as a private in Co. K, 7th Regiment, National Guard New York (1870-1877). However, James A. Ridabock did not enter into business with James H. McKenney at 141 Grand Street until 1883.

DescriptionShako with rigid, cylindrical, black felt-covered crown which is angled forward, flat black patent leather top, and patent leather visor which is thick and somewhat rectangular; circular gilded metal insignia with border of alternating spears and cannon, and initials "LC" in applied white metal on black-enameled disk at center; black patent leather chin strap secured at either side by a large gilded metal button embossed with crossed rifles, white pompon.
