DescriptionMolded pearlware plate with letters of the alphabet around the brim in low relief banded at rim with green stripe; red-brown transfer printed image at center depicts blacksmith working at an anvil and another man pumping bellows while a third sits on a bench in the background; printed image embellished by hand in pink, blue, and yellow overglaze; image encircled by an inscription.
Markingsimpressed: on back of plate: "GEORGE JONES/Stoke on Trent" printed: in red-brown on front of plate: "HE THAT HATH A TRADE HATH AN ESTATE/INDUSTRY PAYS DEBTS WHILE DESPAIR INCREASETH THEM." written: on paper label affixed to back of plate: "Mrs/Sinclairs/things"
