This dish, part of a fifty-four-piece dinner service, was owned by New York statesman and merchant James Watson, Jr. (1750-1806) and his wife Mary Talcott (1752-1806).
DescriptionCup with interlacing reeded strap handles and cover with berry knop; border decoration of wide blue enamel band with gold stars bonded by blue dots and a band of gold spearheads; other decoration consists of blue enamel gilded floral swags and a shield with a blue enamel gold starred border, with ribbons and a leafy swag, initials on shield.
Markingspainted: in blue and gold in shield: "J M W"
