N84.1.1
The earliest lamp in the museum's collection of Tiffany lamps, this example may pre-date Louis Comfort Tiffany's 1894 Favrile glass patent. Irregularities in coloration and surface texture suggest that the shade was created while Tiffany was still experimenting with the decoration of blown glass. Though it is now electrified, the shade may have been made for use with candles.
DescriptionUrn-shaped favrile glass shade, blown glass ecru with five slender yellow-brown lily-type leaves. Shown with circular base (N84.1.2a) raised on five pairs of ball feet has five leaflike wire filigree supports, and with wire filigree and jewel crown (N84.1.2b), Persian-style with pointed top terminating in ball finial, and five elliptical ruby-red glass jewels.
