This waistcoat belonged to Francis Robert Rives, Esq., father of the donor. Mr. Rives was the Secretary of the Legation in London from 1842 to 1844, a post appointed by President John Tyler.
DescriptionWaistcoat with black silk front panels; small rolled collar develops into the long ovoid lapels; five silk covered buttons over the stomach area; brown floral embroidery on lapels, along garment opening and base; rectangular pockets at the waist; satin back panel with ribbon cinch above a satin belt with double prong metal buckle cinch closure; natural cotton lining.
