A privately owned copy of this kerchief has a history of being purchased in Boston in 1797/8.
DescriptionCopperplate-printed cotton kerchief with a facsimile of the Declaration of Independence and signatures in a medallion of oak leaves with the state seals of the thirteen original colonies and portraits of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams; flags and an American bald eagle at the top; images of the Boston Tea party and the Surrender at Saratoga in the bottom corners; border of cannons and anchors; printed in sepia ink on a white ground.
Markingsprinted: in medallion: "IN CONGRESS, JULY 4th. 1776./ THE UNANIMOUS DECLARATION OF THE THIRTEEN UNITED STATES./ OF AMERICA/ When in the course of human events, ..." printed: above portraits: "JEFFERSON/ WASHINGTON/ ADAMS" printed: below vignettes: "Gen.l Burgoyns Surrender to Gen.l Gates at Saratoga/ The patriot Bostonians discharging the British ships in Boston harbor."
