The background flora has been identified as Crossvine or Trumpet flower (Anisostichus capreolata); upper right hand corner is an early pastel drawing which Audubon incorporated into this composition.
DescriptionImmature males; Audubon originally called this bird the Rathbone Warbler in honor of the William Rathbone family of Liverpool, who entertained him and were instrumental in introducing him to potential subscribers in Britain.
