This rare specimen is one of only two bronze strikes known of the John Stewart Comitia Americana medal.
DescriptionBronze struck medal with obverse showing Stewart being presented with a palm branch by a Native American, with legend: "JOANNI STEWART COHORTIS PRAEFECTO" and inscription below exergual line: "COMITIA AMERICANA." Reverse shows a battle scene with legend: "STONEY-POINT OPPUGNATUM" and inscription below exergual line: "XV JUL.MDCCLXXIX."
