Eliza Abramse was the daughter of Jacob and Rachel (Walker) Abramse. She married Archibald Robertson, a promising young artist recently arrived from Scotland, in 1794. She learned to paint in watercolors from her husband and became a rather talented amateur artist in her own right, exhibiting her work several times at the American Academy of Fine Arts.
