According to the donor, this suite of furniture was made for his grandfather John Howard Abeel, who lived on the corner of 8th Street and 2nd Avenue.
DescriptionRococo Revival sofa of three sections, with two upholstered chair backs flanking a lower central section with scroll-carved scrolled crest; each chair back with oval piercing below carved crest; front seat rail and knees carved with reversing C-scroll, foliage, and shell motifs; short cabriole legs with scroll feet on casters; rectangular rear legs. Upholstered with modern gray fabric with black stripes.
