George Washington (1732-1799)

1839
Watercolor on ivory
Overall: 2 3/4 in. (7 cm)
Gift of Thomas W. Streeter
1957.33
This miniature of Washington was painted from an engraving by Laugier after a portrait painted by Gilbert Stuart. The artist seems to have come to America only about 1845, so the miniature was probably executed in her native France.
