This view was intended for publication in a projected series of Erie Canal aquatints which was to be engraved by John Hill (q.v.), engraver of the famed Hudson River Portfolio and other noted prints of the eary nineteenth century. They were taken from original studies prepared by his son, John William Hill. The canal tons and busting life along the upstate New York waterway gave promise of an attractive series, which, for some reason, was never published.
